Mumbai A man, who impersonated a policeman to earn quick bucks, was arrested in Khar recently. Gulabchand Gupta (40), a resident of Jijamata Nagar in Kalachoukie, had approached one Vilas Mahadik, who runs Sadguru Engineering Classes in Khar and told him that he was ‘Police Inspector Deshmukh’ of the Khar police. He then requested Mahadik to donate Rs 7000 for a gymkhana. Mahadik who knows the officers of Khar police station had never heard of ‘Inspector Deshmukh’. So he decided to cross check with the Khar police.

When he was told there was nobody called ‘Inspector Deshmukh’ in Khar police station, he informed the matter to the police. The police immediately reached the spot and arrested Gupta. He was charged with cheating and impersonating a police officer. As per the police, Gupta had committed similar crimes in the areas that fall under the jurisdictions of JJ Marg, Juhu, Sion, Oshiwara, Andheri and NM Joshi Marg police stations.“He was very professional in his approach. Once he had printed some letterheads in the name of ‘Bombay Police Gymkhana’ from a printing press on the NM Joshi Road to dupe people,” said an officer at the Khar police station.
