Mumbai The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Thursday arrested an assistant manager of a multi-national corporation in Navi Mumbai for allegedly sending lewd e-mails to a woman who had turned down his marriage proposal.

As per the police, a 32-year-old woman, who works in an MNC in the city, had filed a complaint against the accused, identified as Yogesha Prabhu. Prabhu was arrested by the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell (CCIC) of the Crime Branch and has been remanded to police custody till April 24.

“The complainant and the accused met through a social networking site and they became friends a year ago. They met each other regularly, and they even decided that they would marry each other. However, things did not work out between them as Prabhu’s parents were opposed to the marriage. The complainant then decided that she does not want to meet him anymore and she told him so,” said JCP (Crime) Rakesh Maria.

“Out of rage, the accused started sending lewd e-mails to the complainant between March 3 and 8. He sent these mails to her friends as well. The e-mails had content which suggested that the complainant was soliciting for sex and was looking for customers. Finally, on March 9, when the complainant received an e-mail from him containing pornographic images, she decided to complain to the police,” said Maria. The e-mails were sent from Navi Mumbai and Haryana from the e-mail address so198021@gmail.com, depending on where Prabhu was touring for official work. The CCIC traced the IP address of the source of the e-mails to Prabhu’s personal computer and arrested him.
