Kolkata A former driver of a family, who stabbed their maidservant and the cook late Sunday night in Ballygunge, has been remanded in police custody for seven days.

Manbat Singh alias Manoj (28) had worked as a driver for Kamal Sanyal (80), a resident of Saptaparni Apartments, for a few years. Even after he quit the job a year ago, he used to visit the flat on Sundays to meet the cook, Narayan Naik (65), and maidservant Ganga Mondol (60).

On Sunday night, Manoj had a tiff with Naik and Mondol after which he attacked them with a knife, said police.

Hearing their cries, neighbours rushed in, nabbed Manoj and handed him over to the police. The two are said to be out of danger now.
