Dhole was reportedly the manager of Kalyani Deshpande who ran a prostitution racket in Pune and also has a criminal case against her, according to police. Broken pieces of a bottle, remnants of a late-night party, broken flower pots and clothes lay scattered around and inside Dhole’s bungalow, now splattered with blood stains, located on a lonely stretch of Sus Road. The police said that the assailants had arrived at the house in Dhole’s absence and assaulted his servant-cook, Gaur, and his driver Dinesh Shaha, both natives of Assam, and had locked them in one of the rooms in the house. The assailants then sat drinking in the lawn of the house, waiting for the owner to arrive. Upon Dhole’s arrival, they attacked him and dragged him inside the house where he was assaulted with a sharp instrument.
PI Suryavanshi of the Chatushrungi police station said that after the assailants had gone, Gaur and Shaha managed to break open the door and inform the police. The police reached there around 9 am, followed by finger-print experts, forensic experts and crime branch officials. Suryavanshi confirmed that Dhole was managing Deshpande’s affairs but clarified that at this juncture no links have been traced to Deshpande. “The murder seems independent of Dhole’s relations with Deshpande and the motive and the culprits are yet to be ascertained,” he said. “The culprits allegedly absconded in Dhole’s Tata Safari, however that has to be confirmed,” he added.
