Gurgaon, January 5 Mannan Thakur (35) jumped to his death this evening from his 8th floor residence at Jalvayu Towers in Sector 36, Gurgaon, while speaking to his wife over the phone.

According to his sister, Vijeta, he had been quarrelling with his wife for the last few months. No suicide note was found, police said.

Mannan, the former general manager of a Citibank branch in central Delhi, had been married for over 11 years and had two children.

His wife, Pooja, a teacher at Shriram School in Vasant Kunj, had been living separately with their children for the last three months. Mannan had moved to Gurgaon two months ago after resigning from his job at Citibank. According to his sister, “He was really distressed about the unpleasantness with his wife.”

Although, the police are not certain about the immediate reason behind Mannan’s suicide, Assistant Sub Inspector Raj Kumar said, “We are investigating the matter. The basic premise till now is domestic quarrel with his wife.”

The couple was not totally estranged as Mannan often visited his wife and children in Vasant Kunj. Vijeta told the press Pooja informed the family about Mannan’s suicide.

The body was sent for postmortem late on Saturday night and will be handed over to the family later on.
