The charred body parts were discovered by villagers in the hilly neighbourhood of Chapad.
Identifying the victim as Manu Tadvi, his wife Vechi (36) lodged an FIR against Balka Vasava of Chapad on Wednesday morning.
According to Vechi, Tadvi was a farm labourer, a resident of Vasna village, Sankheda taluka.
A year ago, he had mortgaged three acres of land to the accused for Rs 40,000. Lately, he was trying to get it back. The land belonged to Vechi.
Garudeshwar police inspector P T Bodar said Tadvi was reported missing since January 28.
The police said the murder could have been committed either in Vadodara or Narmada, and that the accused might have thrown the body parts in the neighbouring village of Narmada to cover up the crime.
Vasava, who is absconding, will be charged with murder and destruction of evidence under the Indian Penal Code, added the police.
According to Vechi, her father was given the land by the Sardar Sarovar Project authorities as a rehabilitation measure, which she later inherited.
But after her marriage, Tadvi mortgaged it.
She said Vasava, who is also a part-time farmer, was eyeing the land as it was suitable for cotton farming.
