Man sentenced in fraud case

Ludhiana A local court today sentenced one Udey Singh, resident of New Abadi Akalgarh village, to two-year imprisonment in a fraud case. He has also been asked to pay a fine of Rs 2,000.

Delivering the verdict, Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Sandeep S Jossan, held that all charges against the accused had been proved. The complaint had been launched by one Harbans Singh, in 2004. The Dakha police station, after conducting an inquiry had then booked Udey under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The prosecution said Udey Singh had issued a cheque to Harbans for Rs 30,000. When the cheque was presented for encashment, bank officials said the account belonged to one Saroj Rani, who had already closed her account.
