Man, son get 10-yr RI for death of daughter-in-law

Ludhiana, February 5 A Man and his son were given 10 years rigorous imprisonment for their involvement in a case pf dowry death. Additional Session Judge Roshan Lal Ahuja Ludhiana awarded the sentence to Kuldip Singh and his father, Bant Singh of Rurka village in District Ludhiana. Kuldip's wife, Harjinder Kaur, had been found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan in their bedroom on November 7, 2003.

A case had been registered at Police Station Dehlon against Kuldip Singh, Bant Singh and Kuldip's mother Jagwinder Kaur on the complaint of Harjinder Kaur's brother. Jagwinder Kaur expired during the course of the trial. According to the complaint, Harjinder Kaur had married the accused on August 15, 2003. At the time of the marriage, Harjinder's family had given sufficient dowry but the accused wanted more, stated the complaint.

After the marriage, Kuldip's family started mistreating her and started demanding a car. On November 6, 2003, the complainant said Harjinder called him. He said he went to her house tried to sort out the matter. But the next day, Harjinder was found dead in her bedroom, stated the complaint.
