According to police officers, 40-year-old Raj Kumar was crossing the road at Paharganj when a Blueline bus plying on route number 19 (Jahangirpuri to New Delhi railway station) hit him from behind. He reportedly fell on the road and received injuries in his arm. The police said the front wheels of the bus stopped inches from his head. Some bystanders helped him into an auto-rickshaw and took him to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. When the auto-rickshaw reached Banwari Lal Hospital on Panchkuian Road, he got off.
As he was crossing the road, the second accident took place.
“Kumar was crossing the road again when a speeding Blueline on route number GL-91 (Nangloi to New Delhi railway station) hit him from behind. This time he fell down and his head came under the front wheels of the bus,” a senior police officer said.
He was rushed to the nearby Banwari Lal Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Both drivers have been arrested for rash and negligent driving; the police have impounded the two vehicles. The police said Raj Kumar lived in Paharganj area and worked as a labourer. He is survived by a wife and three sons.
