Man, wife shot at by Maoists, critical

Kolkata A married couple was shot at by suspected Maoists in Bankura on Sunday. Subal Mondal and wife Mithu, both believed to be CPM supporters, were attacked in the Phulkusuma area of the district.

They were taken to Bankura Medical College where doctors stated their condition as critical, said police.

In another incident, a mob believed to be supporters of the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) ransacked the office of the Sarenga forest range and burnt all documents.

In Jhargram of West Midnapore district, a group of suspected PCAPA activists set ablaze the house of a local CPM leader on Sunday, said police.

Nearly 500 people descended on the house of CPM local committee secretary Manoranjan Pal and burnt it down, police said. No one was however, injured in the incident.

In another case in Salboni area, police have detained two illegal arms traders and seized two revolvers and few cartridges from them.
