‘Manage harvesting time of produce to maximise profit’

Ludhiana, February 4 Deputy Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research Dr P Das visited Punjab Agricultural University today.

According to a statement issued here, the purpose of the visit to have oversee the training extension activities, along with the mandatory activities being undertaken by the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of the state.

To observe the field condition, Dr Das and Dr AK Mehta, zonal coordinator, visited the KVKs of Jalandhar and Amritsar districts. They also visited the farms of progressive farmers. He advised the farmers to manage the fruiting and harvesting time well. According to the demand of local market and the glut, the harvesting of produce should be captured for maximum profitability. The quality of the produce can be improved along with respectable margin with the time management only, he added.

Dr AK Mehta ,Zonal Coordinator, ICAR, told the farmers that all the KVKs will be advised to do on farm research trials, keeping in mind the farmers perspective, variable time span of maturity of the crop.

The high-profile team also visited the KVKs of both districts and was impressed by the innovative ideas of the farmers, especially improvements made in the net house according to the needs.
