Transcend, the biggest management cum cultural festival, was organized by SIBM from February 22 to 24 at the Symbiosis Vishwabhavan. The three day long management fest witnessed more than 10,000 students from close to 40 B-Schools from across the country participating in various management, cultural, online events. The main attraction of the festival was the participation of Jigrr, the official mascot of the Commonwealth Youth Games Pune 2008. Jigrr along with SIBM-ites and a number of participants came together to promote the Go Green theme of the Commonwealth Youth Games Pune 2008 through road shows in different parts of the city.
The fest was inaugurated by Suresh Kalmadi, MP and chairman of the organising committee of the Commonwealth Youth Games Pune 2008 and CWG Delhi 2010. Speaking on the occasion, Kalmadi said, "The spirit and enthusiasm shown by students here is remarkable. This festival offers an excellent platform for the youth of today to showcase their diverse talents and promote a direct exchange of creative ideas and experiences. Commonwealth Youth Games Pune 2008 will surely help raise public awareness and build local movements to truly transform our city and position it as an international destination for sports, tourism and education". Speaking about the occasion, Dr Majumdar of Symbiosis, added, "Since its inception in year 1992, Transcend has been promoting social causes through its management students. This social initiative is not just happening in Pune city but also being promoted by our students across the globe who have been placed in the corporate world".
The first day witnessed a number of events like Business Leader contest and Acoustica. The first level of management game - People Tree, took place on day one of Transcend. The energy and the excitement of the day touched new heights with Urban Chic, a fashion show that was won by WLCS. Acoustica, the music contest was won by SIBM, the hosts of the event. Making the show special was Pranab Mukherjee, who with his charm and unmatched persona anchored the sports quiz contest.
Second day was all about the second rounds of People Tree and Business Leader contest. Just as the day was about to end in a formal, corporate manner, it was singer KK who gave it the glam-touch. The Chappa chappa and Dosti singer enthralled the audience with his mind-blowing numbers like Alvida and Pal. The show broke all the records when 4,500 people flooded the Elysium lounge, just to get a glimpse of their favourite artiste.
Day three can be explained in only one word- excitement. Colleges were celebrating as the results were being announced. Achievers of the day were Dhruv Dhingra of IIM, Indore, who grabbed the first position for the business leader contest; IMT Ghaziabad won the business quiz when they successfully defeated 70 colleges that participated in the event. Tata Institute of Social Sciences went on to be the winners for the business plan contest. And then there were the Channel V guys who gave the fest a silver lining when Point Blank, a Pune based band, won the Channel V Campus Launch Pad at Transcend. Point Blank will also get a wild card entry into the semi finals of Channel V Launch Pad.
According to an excited Chirayu Desai, event coordinator, SIBM, "This was a great festival as we broke a number of records. We had a number of participants from across the globe and they took part in our online contests."
