On the basis of her complaint, the cops started investigations into the matter and found out that the accused, Tarun Sharma had shopped with the same credit card in Ansal Plaza on the day Punita registered her complaint.

“When we started investigations, we managed to get Tarun’s phone number which he had given at one of the shops he visited to purchase items using Punita’s credit card. From his mobile phone number, we traced his house in Shahdara and arrested him,” a senior police officer said.

Senior police officers added that Tarun Sharma works as an area manager in a private firm in Mumbai and had come to Delhi, where his parents stay, a few days ago.

“Tarun had shopped for about Rs 60,000 using Punita’s credit card within half-an-hour of stealing the card from her purse,” the police officers added. Sharma later crushed the card and threw it away in the mall.

Punita Kaur is a resident of Sarojini Nagar area of South Delhi and had gone shopping with her family at Ansal Plaza in South Extension.
