Lucknow, January 11 The annual business conclave of the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, Manfest-2008 began here today with some of the top leaders of India Inc sharing their thoughts on subjects like leadership, media and entertainment industry.

The theme of this year’s conclave is “Transforming Thoughts, Mobilizing Minds”. Those who spoke today included, Narendra Ambwani, MD of Johnson and Johnson, India; G V N Apparao, VP of Technology CTS; Partho Dasgupta, CEO of the Future Media.

“Leaders disrupt the current order, take risks and are focused on long term goals,” said Ambwani, and added, “A leader will only continue to grow if he has personal modesty and humility.” On the new opportunities, he said, “The world is transforming as the economic balance has tilted towards the east.”

Indrani Mukherji, CEO of INX group said, “Today’s news channels focus only on ‘breaking news’ and miss the relevant content or context. Though there is a space for many players in addition to the bigwigs like STAR, ZEE and SAHARA, but at the same time there is a need to increase the local media channels as well.”

Encouraging the participants to join the media industry, she said, “Salaries offered by the industry are now comparable to those offered by the FMCGs. Thus, there is every reason for a manager from IIM should look to join a media company.”
