Mangolpuri: Truck goes on rampage, mows down 1, injures 2

New Delhi, February 6 A truck went on a rampage in Outer Delhi's Mangolpuri area on Wednesday. In the process, an unidentified man was killed, a mother-daughter were critically injured and a Honda City car was completely damaged.

The incident took place outside Kali Mata temple, police said. At 12.45 am, a speeding truck hit a parked Honda City after which the truck climbed on the footpath. "By then the driver had lost control of the truck. He hit a man, who was coming out of the temple, and then hit a woman and a daughter," eyewitnesses told police.

Police said the man is yet to be identified, while the woman and the daughter have been identified as Sarita Laxmi (40) and Vijaya (6) - both residents of Rohini. The Honda City car was vacant as its occupants were inside the temple.

Police officers said the victims were immediately rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where the man was declared dead on arrival and the mother-daughter were referred to the ICU, where they are still battling for their lives. Police said the truck was carrying road construction material and was coming from Madhuban Chowk area headed to Peeragarhi.

"The driver immediately fled from the spot after the incident. The driver has been booked under Sections 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) , 304A (death due to negligence) and 279 (rash and negligent driving) at the Mangolpuri Police Station," a senior police officer said.

In another incident, a three-year-old girl was killed in Sangam Vihar. Kanchan Devi was playing outside her house in F-block, when a Tempo hit her. She was taken to nearby hospital where she was declared dead.

A 25-year-old man was killed in Delhi Cantonment area today. Sushil Kumar, a courier boy, was hit by an unknown vehicle on a flyover at 11.30 am, police said.
