Bathinda, February 13 A Double bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, comprising Chief Justice Vijendra Jain and Justice KS Ahluwalia, today issued notice of motion to the Punjab government, Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tewari, SSP Naunihal Singh, SI Bhagwant Singh and ASI Jagtar Singh for the alleged manhandling of lawyers by policemen in Bathinda.

The case would come up for hearing on April 11. Bathinda District Bar Association had filed a writ petition in the High Court, demanding registration of a case against the police party headed by Bhagwant Singh, which allegedly manhandled lawyers on the night of December 5. The lawyers had alleged that policemen were in an inebriated state at that time.

However, Bhagwant Singh had refuted the charges, saying that it were the lawyers who were drunk. “After taking up the matter with the district administration, the police chief and Punjab Chief Minister, when no action was taken, we moved court,” said DBA president Jatinder Roy Khattar.
