Lucknow, February 6 The hearing in murder case of IOC sales officer Manjunath Shanmugan has been deferred till Thursday. The defence lawyer could not inform the court today about the availability of S K Agarwal to argue the case of the convicted persons.

On Tuesday, the court had asked when the retired judge of Delhi High Court could argue the case, said I B Singh, counsel of the Manjunath Shanmugam Trust.

According to Singh, the defence lawyer told the court that Agarwal was not in Delhi and would inform the court tomorrow regarding his arrival here.

Last March, the Lakhimpur DSJ had sentenced to death Pawan Kumar Mittal for the murder. Seven others — Devesh Agnihotri, Sanjay Awasthi, Rakesh Aanand, Shivkesh Giri, Harish Mishra, Rajesh Verma and Vivek Sharma — were awarded life imprisonment. The convicts have appealed to the Allahabad Bench of Lucknow HC against the judgment.

The death sentence awarded to Mittal has been referred to the HC for confirmation as per the provisions of CrPC, Singh added.
