Faridkot, January 7 SAD (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann was arrested along with 11 others in Kotkapura, under what police called a preventive measure, when he was protesting against the plying of buses of a company reportedly owned by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Mann and others were charged under Sections 107 and 151 (knowingly joining or continuing in assembly of five or more persons after it has been commanded to disperse) of the IPC, before they were produced before the court of a Sub-Divisional Magistrate and sent to jail for 15 days.

SAD (Amritsar) had given a statewide call to protest against the Orbit Transport Company owned by Badal, accusing it of a monopolistic approach.

In Bathinda, 24 protesters were held, while 18 were put under preventive arrest Mansa. The Muktsar police had already arrested about six persons in this regard. "Things remained peaceful here," said Muktsar SP Gurpreet Singh Gill.

It was learnt that as a preventive measure, the police had provided personnel to each and every bus being run by Orbit Transport Company. The personnel were present in the buses, both in uniform and plainclothes.

ASP Harsh Bansal said this was done to avoid any untoward incident.
