Kolkata Two days after the state home department ordered a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into the mysterious death of Arindam Manna, the investigating officer in the Rizwanur Rehman case, relatives of the deceased said they don’t have faith in the CID.

The Manna family demanded that the case be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). “We don’t want a CID probe. We want the case be handed over to the CBI,” said Manna’s maternal uncle Jitendranath Pal.

A team of CID officers visited Manna’s house at Dasnagar in Howrah on Saturday and recorded the statements of his father and mother. Niraj Nayan Pandey, Special IG and DIG, CID said his colleagues have recorded the statements of members of the Manna family.

Another CID officer said they are checking call details of Manna’s cellphone. It is learnt that Manna had called his mother at 1.38 am on Wednesday. “The call was made from somewhere near Bandel in Hooghly. We still do not know whether he was taken to Bandel by someone or had gone there on his own,” said a CID officer.

Investigating officers have also spoken to some of Manna’s colleagues, but they reportedly failed to give them any clue. The postmortem report was not sent to the CID till today. “We can’t say anything about the nature of the death unless we get the postmortem report,” said a senior CID officer.
