According to Police Inspector Shashank Shinde, the man appeared to be in the age group of 30 years to 35 years. He was wearing blue jeans and a black t-shirt in denim. His body was wrapped in a blood-stained ‘lungi’ . Shinde said: “The man does not have any railway ticket or credentials in his pockets which can help us trace his address. He just has the word ‘Shankar’ tattooed on his hand.”
Shinde added that the man appeared to have been killed with a knife used for cutting crops. “He also has a deep wound on his back and chest,” the inspector said.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus police station was informed by the station master about a dead body lying on the tracks. “That area is very lonely. Nobody goes there. A passenger saw something lying there and in turn informed the station master. Moreover, the body seemed to have been lying there since Saturday night.”
The body was taken to St George Hospital where a postmortem report confirmed the murder. However, officials have no leads in the case so far.
“We found no witnesses nor any relatives. The dogs of the sniffer dog squad just rushed till the Byculla market, not in any specific shop from where we could have picked up suspects,” said Shinde.
