Kolkata Barely 12 days after one of the worst train accidents caused by sabotage done by Maoists took place at Sardiha in West Midnapore, several superfast trains including Howrah-bound Duronto Express from Mumbai were today stopped at various stations for hours after reports that a group of suspicious people were spotted near railway tracks at Jamuibheda village near Jhargram. The section falls on the Kharagpore-Tatanagar stretch of South Eastern Railway.

According to the police, around 8 pm, Jamboni police station, under whose jurisdiction the place falls, informed Jhargram GRP that a group of people were assembled near the tracks and some were seen carrying weapons and equipment to damage tracks. The GRP immediately informed the railway authorities, who suspended all trains running in that section.

“We have been stranded at Ghatshila station for about three hours. We see policemen on the platform and we have been told not to even remove the curtains on the window. We were also told not to go to the toilet unless it was very necessary. It seems to be a nightmare to me,” said Bithika Mandal, the Forward Bloc MLA from Barasat who is on board Duronto.

The police, however, said at present there was no group seen at the place. “We have deployed policemen at the place at Jamuibheda. I don’t know how long this will go on,” West Midnapore SP Manoj Verma said.

Very convenient for the passangers indeed. Why not a pilot engine, and big police force, instead of keeping passangers waiting? Moreover, it makes no sense how can the Maoists plan to strike after the political disaster they suffered very recently. The government takes extra security when no security is required; and vice versa.
