Maoists gun down CPM leader in Belpahari

Kolkata Suspected Maoists shot dead a local CPM leader at Belpahari in West Midnapore district this evening.

Swapan Mondal (39), a member of the Belpahari Panchayat Samiti and also of CPM local committee, was killed returning to his home in Belabera village when Maoists cornered him near a canal.

Police said five armed Maoists shot him on his head and body and he died on the spot.

Earlier too, Mondol’s house was attacked by Maoists a few month ago.

West Midnapore SP Manoj Verma said the police are combing nearby areas to trace the attackers.
