Kolkata Suspected Maoists and members of the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) today set three trucks on fire at Goaltore in West Midnapore.

According to the police, a 200-strong mob blocked the road at Bulanpur village under Goaltore police station this morning. They stopped three trucks and set them ablaze after forcing out the drivers. West Midnapore SP Manoj Verma said a large contingent of police has been deployed.

Verma also said two women were seriously injured at Kehsi village in the same area in a crossfire between the joint forces and Maoists. Both of them — Jharna Ahir and Rekha Karmakar — have been admitted to a hospital at Bankura.

Meanwhile, the Maoists have called for a bandh tomorrow in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh to protest alleged police atrocities and violation of human rights and price rise.

An alert has been sounded in West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia fearing violence during the bandh.
