In a representation submitted to UT Administrator General S F Rogrigues (Retd), chairman of the market committee and Congress councillor Devinder Singh Babla said the decision of the government to have checkposts in the market had not gone down well with the traders.
Referring to questions being raised on the functioning of the market association, Babla stated that officials of the Administration could check the records and audit the functioning. He also offered to resign from his post of the chairman and face legal consequences if his staff members were found guilty.
Earlier, the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Traders Cell had also written to UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas opposing the setting up of checkposts in the market area.
