At Club Oasis, Grand Hyatt, they take their wine very seriously. On for a month, the treatment leaves one feeling luxuriant, and not quaffing with wine. The idea is to allow one to soak in wine, literally, and then finish the ritual with a customary glass of wine.
Once in the quiet environs of the spa, one chases only relaxation (before being presented with a bill of Rs 7,500). A special mix of red wine, ground rice and fresh crushed grapes is used for exfoliation. It’s a two-step ritual. After the exfoliation, either a deep-tissue or a relaxing massage follows. The smell of the wine lurks until long after it has been washed away. The good news is that it is rather pleasant.
Therapist Phulu, who has been working at the spa for three years, explains the wonders of using wine as an exfoliant, “It’s a great anti-oxidant and also fights ageing. The mixture that we use to scrub is a bit coarse and it helps remove the dead skin very well.” There are more properties to the rich purple mixture. A quick Google search reveals that vinotherapy may be the next best thing for menopausal women. It has mood-lifting properties. Not just that, grape seeds contain polyphenols which, once stabilised, have priceless benefits for the skin. The anti-oxidants contained in the grape seed polyphenols have an incredible capacity to fight free radicals, and therefore fight aging. The free-radical protection from grape seed polyphenols is unequalled in the plant world.
Currently, at Club Oasis red wine is primarily blended with other ingredients; the list will be updated once the wine spa catches on. Once that happens, there will be many options to go with wine. One can choose grape-seed oil, shea butter with one’s choice of either red or white wine. Then there’s a grape scrub, honey wine wrap and other such delicious treats too. Just talking about champagne showers, wine jacuzzis and Sauvignon massages almost gives a new lease of life to the usual spa experience.
