A repertoire of deep thoughts, sensitivity, concern for the environment, human emotions, the world around us...At the annual exhibition of the College of Art, students have created without inhibitions, with passion and unfettered feelings. The compositions go beyond fine lines, brilliant textures, creative colour contrasts, for enveloped in each work is a distinct idea, interesting imagination and a purpose that puts both art and action into perspective.

Applied Art, painting, sculpture, installations, illustrations, photography, lithographs...it’s a diverse range. Most story-boards have been visualized with a social theme, be it female foeticide, depression amongst youngsters, child labour and students have experimented with both design, colour, language to tell a simple story with effect. The graphics, presentation, characterization is both professional and of high quality. The sculptures are evocative, be it a little boy with a kettle on his head and sadness on his face, wooden shoe, contemporary Bhisham on a bed of nails, a set of tea cups which signify brunch, hands which chisel a foetus, served emotions in the form of fish, fork and knife...with the materials ranging from plaster of Paris to fibre glass, wood, metal...The candid camera captures foot craft on sand, people in motion, the ethereal environment, while the paintings, in oil and mixed media mostly focus on people, various facets of life, deep emotions, personal leanings, transitions...Some works have been created with charcoal, pencil, staple pins on board et al. Especially absorbing are press layouts with catchy taglines, be it getting sensual and wearing the feeling for a perfume promotion, a magazine layout for Lipton tea, rhythm of life for Music Today, a shopping bag, a campaign to save water, each one save one, social layouts to prevent suicides, child abuse, domestic violence, discrimination, campaign for NECC...There’s a lot of work on terrorism, subtly, but evocatively portrayed, like a series which displays a time table of crimes, bag of guns, blood oozing out of the geometry box. These make you stop and reflect. There are delicate etchings and aqua tints, lithographs, all a labour of love.
