Apparently perturbed over the revolt, Chief Minister Mayawati, who reached Delhi on Monday, summoned Dharam Singh, in-charge of the party’s Rajasthan unit for a meeting later in the evening.

The legislators who sided with the Congress include Rajendra Gudda, Rajkumar Sharma, Murarilal Meena, Ram Kesh Meena, Ramesh Meena and Giriraj Singh.

Asked if the BSP legislators were joining the Congress, state Congress president C P Joshi said: “I am not a member of the House. So I cannot comment on this. But they had met the chief minister.”

According to the leader of the BSP Legislature Party Rajendra Gudda, this move was meant to oust Dharam Singh. “All party legislators are unhappy with him, he functions like an autocrat. We won’t allow him to continue,” he said.

As for supporting the Congress government, he said although the Assembly has been in session for the last three days, the party had not issued any diktat regarding their role there.

Accusing Dharam Singh of conniving with the BJP, Gudda said: “The BJP tried to convince us to oppose the government, when we have won against them. It was not possible on our part to side with the BJP.” He, however, avoided any questions about any understanding between them and the Congress.

Gudda said Dharam Singh did not understand Rajasthan politics and the party had to pay the price for it. “I had suggested 10 names for party tickets and he rejected all. Most of won elections as Independent candidates,” he added.
