Mayor stalls sealing drive

Ludhiana, February 25 On orders of Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura, all the sealed showrooms in the city have been given 15 days time to comply with the parking arrangements.

Four showrooms Asia Cranes, National Cranes on Gill Road, Devindras on Cheema Chowk and Bhullar Furniture Showroom were desealed yesterday while VLCC building and Vishal Mega Mart were given clearance today. They are likely to open tomorrow morning. The mayor while confirming the order said," I have stalled the drive for the time being. I have called an all-party meeting on February 28 to decide on the issue. The owners of the sealed showrooms have been given 2 weeks time to comply with the orders."

On being asked if the order amounts to contempt of court as it was a high court order, he said," In the meeting we will be decide about the time limit to be given to the showroom owners, so that public is not made to suffer. The owners rued that they were not given prior notices before sealing the showrooms." He added," Apart from giving notice to the owners of sealed showrooms, we have sent notices to nearly 50 more showroom owners in Ghumar Mandi, Model Town, Malhar Road, Mall Road, etc."

Meanwhile, the violators have given written assurance to abide by the orders in a stipulated time.
