Noida An 18-year-old management student was allegedly gangraped in Noida some time after 5 pm on Monday evening, by 10 men on motorcycles who intercepted the car in which the girl was travelling with a male friend. According to the FIR lodged by the victim’s friend, the incident happened in Sector 39, not far from Great India Place mall where the two had gone shopping.

Five of the accused had been arrested within 12 hours of the incident, Noida police said. A hunt was on for the other five. The accused are men between 18 to 25 years. Several of them are students of Inter College, Noida, police said.

According to the FIR, the men, riding three motorcycles and carrying cricket bats and stumps, overtook the Wagon R the victim was in, and forced it to stop.

“It was around 5 pm when the boys starting troubling us. They overpowered us and hit us with cricket bats and wickets and snatched our mobile phones. They took the car to the jungle where they raped her,” the girl’s friend wrote in his FIR with the Sector 39 police.

Ashok Tripathi, SP (City), however, said that the arrested men had told the police that they abducted the girl from Pushta Parthala, where she was sitting and chatting with the friend. “The boys were returning from village Pachota, Bulandshahr after playing a cricket match. On the way, they saw the two and raped the girl in the fields,” Tripathi said.

Police have also detained a brother of one of the accused, who is a driver with a senior police officer. He told The Indian Express: “My brother, whose name is Little, and his friends kidnapped the girl and raped her in the woods near Parthala. He is absconding and I have no idea where is he hiding.”

All the arrested accused belong to village Garhi Chowkhanda, Sector 58.

Police identified them as Pushpendra, Srikant, Sanjay, Sudhir and Gautam. Two motorcycles, a Pulsar (UP 16 L 4619) and a Splendor (UP 16 B 5540) have been seized.

Tripathi claimed credit for the “commendable job” the police had done in arresting the suspects soon after the complaint was filed. “The FIR was registered around 1.30 am. The act of acting swiftly and arresting the accused is a commendable task,” he said.

NOIDA rape by chandra on 18 Jun 2010

req ask the politicians how they will respond if it happens to their family and change the response accordingly. it is sad, it is hurting to read about them. Different issues need different responses, some deterrent, some ruthless. This needs a ruthless response from the rulers. Hope they are up to it.

the rape capital by anjan kumar samal on 07 Jan 2009

The city is thousand miles away from the said hospitable environment as still the capital city is the city of crime.Despite of so many positive efforts by the city police ,the pick pocketers, snatchers, and rapists are roaming hither and thither around the city. The city is becoming an epitome of lawless state of affair. I wonder why tourist should feel safe when residents are at risk. Few do perpetuate the local government accomplishments by veiling all their failures, but the fact will remain the same.In general communication in the city is far from polite and city is not safe for women traveling alone. That why it is famous as 'Rape capital of India'.
