Ludhiana The Vigilance Bureau today booked former MC Commissioner SK Sharma, Senior Town Planner Balkar Singh Brar, ATP Kamaljit Kaur and Veer Coloniser head Tarun Jain, husband of a BJP councillor Ruchi Jain in a corruption case pertaining to building byelaws. While VB SSP Kanwarjit Singh Sandhu has not been replying to the queries by mediapersons and is not answering their calls, other VB officers also turned taciturn.

VB DSP Ravcharan Singh Brar, when contacted feigned ignorance but reliable sources revealed that yesterday DSP Brar had questioned senior town planner (STP) Balkar Singh Brar, who is also the brother of a two-time former Kotkapura Akali MLA Mantar Singh Brar.

According to sources, the VB has registered a case under Sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Sources allege that Tarun Jain developed a colony on the Bahadur Ke Road without paying development fee in alleged connivance with senior MC officers thereby causing a loss of Rs 4 crore to state exchequer.

Meanwhile, some councillors from the ruling alliance have gone to meet Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in this regard.

MC bigwigs booked in graft case by Chandru Narayan on 09 Mar 2009

Builders have to pay fees for development of a area, then there are land mafias also asking them for money, then the police also stop by to get some money and the gravy train rolls into every station. It is time to address corruption and stop it with a iron fist, including yesteryears corruption like Bofors, HDW, Urea and fodder. Unless we punish the politicians we will NEVER be able to address the ending or control of corruption at the lower levels. Make the recruitment of policemen a national entrance exam, so that the local politicians do not use their influence to put people on the job who are worthless and will wag for the politician when he is stealing.
