MC Budget to be tabled before F&CC today

Chandigarh The Municipal Corporation is likely to pass a budget of Rs 568 crore for the financial year 2009-10. Of this, Rs 233 crore will be for the Plan head and Rs 175 crore under the Non-Plan head. This is an increase from last year’s budget of Rs 540 crore. The Budget will be discussed in the Finance and Contract Committee meeting on Tuesday. Once passed, it would be taken to the MC House.

At Rs 46.40 crore, a substantial part of the amount is likely to be spent on the development of roads. Moreover, Rs 11.30 crore would be for Storm Water Drainage and Rs 6.20 crore for water supply and tubewells. With the Municipal Corporation laying stress on computerisation of its functioning, Rs 2 crore has been allocated in the Budget for the same. Disaster Management is another area of concern with Rs 2.50 crore likely to be allocated for this. The Corporation would also keep up with its work of development and maintenance of green belts, augmentation of street lighting, improving facilities for fire fighting, etc.
