Ludhiana “I need results and not written communication alone,” said MC Commissioner G.S Ghuman while presiding over a special meeting of the staff of building and roadways, town planning department and tehbazari department.

Admonishing the employees for their non-performance, a visibly angry Commissioner said, “I myself have to go to the field to check encroachments, building by-law violations. The job the big workforce of your departments is supposed to do.”

The employees were cornered as the commissioner grilled them for more than an hour.

Interestingly, he expressed a slight satisfaction with the performance of Tehbazari department, which has earned a dubious distinction of removing temporary encroachments on daily basis only to see them resuracing withing a few hours.

But the town planning wing was questioned about a few buildings in the areas of Model Town, Hambaran Road etc which despite complaints have now become double-storeyed. As already mentioned, during the Sangat Darshans held in the city recently, the CM had asked for details of the Town Planning department and it has been conveyed to the officials that the Chief Minister himself was having a close look at the working of the Town Planning department.

In the case of Building and Radways Department as well, he expressed his unhappiness when he said that he himself had found poor quality work in many areas.

At the moment, the road construction work has come to standstill because of the on-going winter season, but the commissioner warned them not to give him any room for complaint once the work was resumed in the coming few weeks.
