Mohali Mohali Police arrested Municipal councillor Baljeet Kaur and Balwinder Singh, a resident of Motemajra, on charges of assaulting two journalists on Friday. They were, however, released on bail soon after.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (City-II) Swarndeep Singh said taking cognizance of the complaint lodged by one of the scribes, Darshan Singh Sodhi, an FIR under sections 323 and 341 of the IPC was lodged at the Phase VIII police station. The two had allegedly been assaulted after a scuffle broke out at the entry to the MC meeting hall.

While Sodhi, from Punjabi Tribune, faced the wrath of an unidentified man, Kuldeep Singh of a vernacular newspaper alleged that Baljeet Kaur had slapped him.

The journalists had gathered at the MC Bhawan and staged a dharna to seek immediate arrest of the alleged assailants, where SP (City), Varinder Paul Singh, had assured them of necessary action.
