The officials of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation came under fire from Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar Block-I residents after the work to widen roads in the area resulted in suspended water supply and inundated roads. The residents had a harrowing time today as a JCB machine broke the water pipe in the area resulting in swamped roads and discontinued water supply in homes. To make things worse, vehicles parked by the roadside went under after the patch of road caved in.
Narinder Singh, a resident of the area, complained, “We are at our wits end to understand why the LMC is doing all this? We have not asked the LMC to broaden the roads and they have dug up the green belts adjoining the park to make new patches. The digging has been going on for almost ten days now. With electricity poles standing midway, I simply can not comprehend how a person will park his car on this small patch behind the pole.”
Another family of the area had a harrowing day today after their new Santro car got under. The family complained, “We had parked our car by the roadside and because of the digging work, our car sank.” It took more than a day for this family to take out the car.
Another resident Malkiat Singh said, “They have broken the water pipes and there is no one to repair them. When we brought the matter to the notice of the contractor, he asked us to call a private plumber. This is sheer callousness.” The contractor Paramjeet Singh despite repeated attempts was not available for comments.
Anu, another resident of the area, added, “Driving in this area is no longer safe. I was driving on the side of the road when a part of the road simply caved in resulting in me and my scooter falling into the ditch. I now have swollen knees and a bruised elbow.”
