Ludhiana The move is aimed at ensuring that only genuine contractors applied

Ludhiana Municipal Corporation authorities are likely to finalise a new policy for the tender system soon.

Under this policy, any contractor asking for a tender form will have to reveal the details of the project, his identity, project number etc. This is being done to maintain a record as to who all are asking for a form.

MC sources said that the move was still in the planning stage. They added that earlier, a large number of contractors used to take forms with only a few of them actually filing them. It happened in the recently invited tenders for more than 200 works for which only five tenders were received came. Consequently, the MC will have to recall the tenders, according to sources.

They said that once they will have the information of the firm asking for tender form, the firm will not be able to back-track, and only genuine contractors will be asking for the forms.

However, a group of contractors expressed apprehension that with the details of names etc revealed, the secrecy of tender policy would be compromised and competitors will be able to know as to who all are applying for which project.

A debate is still going on on the matter, but sources confirmed that the policy is likely to be finalised soon.
