With this aim, Sehaj Safai Kendras (SSK) would be set up in the southern sectors, which have many group housing societies and houses a substantial population.
The MC has also decided to replace garbage bins in various sectors and 100 new bins are being placed at various locations across the city, in the first phase.
While broken and old garbage bins will be replaced, as many as 125 bins have already been picked up and will be auctioned.
The MC had earlier conducted a survey to see the number of bins which are present across the city and also to determine whether they need to be replaced.
Areas and open points, where people have a tendency to throw garbage, were also identified and garbage bins will now be placed at these places.
Dr G Diwan, Medical Officer of Health, said: "We are preparing for the summers in advance. The process of replacing bins has started and Sehaj Safai Kendras would also be built. The process is likely to be completed by April. There are a number of diseases that spread during summers due to unhygienic surroundings and we are taking precautionary measures to prevent them."
The process of garbage collection has also been made free of cost for the residents of colonies and villages, who were earlier not willing to pay for door to door collection.
MC misses deadline to install CCTV cameras in parking lots
Municipal Corporation's experiment with close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in parking lots has not started on a good note. The first such device, which was installed in a paid parking lot in Sector 35, a few days ago, stopped functioning after a vehicle smashed the pole on which it had been put up. The decision to install CCTV cameras in parking lots had been taken with a view to reduce vehicle thefts. These cameras record all that is happening around and the same can be viewed later. A decision was taken to keep a record of the vehicles that enter and exit the parking lots. Though the decision was taken last year and August 2008 was the deadline for the same, they have been installed at only one parking lot. The Municipal Corporation had also proposed that the number of cars parked would be according to the available slots, which were to be demarcated with paint that shines at night. This is also not being followed in all the parking lots. Recent checks have revealed that the parking situation is so chaotic that in case a fire breaks out, there is no space for fire tenders to enter the parking lot.
