MC officials claimed that the gurdwara was being constructed on a land of a nallah. The area residents, on the other hand, contested the MC claim. Following this, the senior MC officials asked people to maintain status quo, and asked them to show them the documents regarding the ownership of the land.
The MC officials said that till the ownership documents were shown to them, the people would not further raise the construction, nor would MC would demolish the building which had been constructed till now.
At about 4.30 pm, an MC team led by Municipal Town Planner (MTP) Kamaljit Kaur and DSP Amandeep Kaur Gill, along with about 50 policemen and MC employees, went to the site where a gurdwara was being constructed since January 1. At this site, one room was constructed with a kutcha roof, and further construction was being raised. According to MC officials, this land was of a nallah which once flowed here. The MC team was accompanied by two bulldozers, for demolishing the building.
Seeing the MC team, the area residents gathered at the spot and started demonstrating against the MC team, and raised slogans against them. Following this, the MC team called Senior Town Planner (STP) Balkar Singh Bajaj and Joint Commissioner-cum-Zonal Commissioner Ashok Bajaj. These officials kept listening to the arguments by the protesting people.
Following these arguments, the MC officials asked the people to show the documents regarding the ownership of land, where the gurdwara is being constructed. The drama lasted for about two hours.
