Ludhiana, February 4 Noticing rehris in Feroze Gandhi market reportedly for the first time in several years, the MC tehbazari team removed 13 stalls on Monday afternoon. MC officials said the stalls were causing a lot of traffic problems.

Apart from fining the stall owners, the team also has plans to penalise the parking contractor who, according to the information available with the MC team, was charging Rs 50-100 from rehri owners every day to let them set shop in the market. The parking contractor will be fined Rs 500 every day starting Monday, said MC officials.

Superintendent of MC’s Tehbazari branch, Naveen Malhotra, said, “This has come to our notice only today. So from today, if rehris are seen in the market again, the parking contractor will be fined Rs 500 every day”.

Sources said, according to estimates, the parking contractor earns not less than Rs 1,000.

This means that even if the contractor pays the fine to the MC every day, he still ends up making a profit, they said.
