‘Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate and Release’ (CNVR) is the new project adopted by the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to sterilise the dogs. Tenders for this project were recently floated and the civic body aims to sterilise 12,000 dogs under this project.

Speaking to Newsline, Zonal Commissioner Amarjit Sekhon said that Rs 650 per dog has been quoted by the Municipal Corporation in the tenders and the lowest bid will be given the project. The dog sterilisation project is already going on and is being carried out by the company Doggy Lane.

So far 4,500 dogs have been sterilised by Doggy Lane and it still has to complete the 5,000 target given by the Municipal Corporation. This company is carrying out sterilisation by the traditional method, which includes hospitalisation of dogs for seven-10 days.

However, the CNVR project aims to release the dogs in the locality on the same day, informed Sekhon.

“The earlier project involved a major surgery and but now it will be done through a minor incision. The earlier method involved sterilisaton of dogs for Rs 500 per day while for bitches the cost was Rs 650 per case. This included vaccination. Now we will be following a more advanced method,” added Sekhon.

The tenders were scheduled to be floated in December but due to the implementation of the Code Of Conduct, the Election Commission had stopped the Municipal Corporation from proceeding. Finally, after the elections, the tenders have been floated and the civic body expects the entire process to be complete in a fortnight, so as to be ready for project allotment.

“To ensure greater professionalism, we will be giving this project to two companies instead of one,” explained Sekhon.
