MCA, APJ notch-up easy wins

Chandigarh Bouyed by a combined effort from Kinderpreet Singh (83) and Mehanzpreet (77) enabled MCA, Mohali to beat MCM Blue Caps Academy by seven wickets in the ongoing Ind-Swift Under-15 Inter-Academy Cricket Tournament being organised by Desh Prem Azad Cricket Academy in a match played at St Stephen's School-45 in Chandigarh on Friday.

Batting first, MCM Blue Caps Academy scored a total of 204 runs at the loss of nine wickets in the allotted quota of 40 overs. Angad Khera (23) and Harpreet (21) were the main scorers for MCM Academy. For MCA, Mohali, Mehanazpreet and Munish Srivastav grabbed two wickets each.

In reply, the formidable looking MCA Mohali team was able to achieve the target in 31 overs. Kinderpreet was the star for the winning side, as he scored match-winning knock of 83 runs. His innings included 11 fours and one six. He was ably supported by Mehanzpreet (77) who too played impressively to help his side win the match. His knock contained seven fours and three sixes. For MCM, Amish scalped three wickets for 27 runs.

In the second match of the day, APJ, Kharrar defeated DP Azad Cricket Academy by 38 runs in a match played at the same ground. Batting first, APJ, Kharrar made a fighting total of 239 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 40 overs. Harman played a superb knock of 83 runs, which included eleven fours and two sixes. Harman and Sahil added 57 runs for the second wicket partnership, while Anmol and Kapil were involved in 61 runs for the fifth wicket. Gaurav Singh and Jagpreet picked-up three wickets each. Batting second, DP Azad Academy were bundled out for 202 in 37.3 overs. Despite impressive knock of 77 by Gaurav Singh DP Azad Academy failed to achieve the set target.

Match II: APJ, Kharrar: 239 for 9 in 40 overs (Harman 80, 11x4, 2x6, Kapil Punia 43 6x4, Gaurav Singh 3 for 31, Jagpreet 3 for 30)

DP Azad: 202 all out in 37.3 overs (Gaurav Singh 75, 7x4, 3x6, Talwinder Singh Junior 26, 1x4, 3x6, Jagpreet Singh 23, 3x4, Kanwar Singh 2 for 14, Sarthak 2 for 44).

Hooda to honour sportspersons today
Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda will honour outstanding sportspersons of the state on July 4. These include six women hockey players who were part of the Indian team which won the Champions Challenge II last week and boxers who won medals in the Asian Boxing Championship a fortnight ago. The Haryana government has also decided to receive all the players who bring laurels to the country with their outstanding performances at any international events immediately on their arrival back in the country. Besides this, a felicitation function would also be organised to honour such players. Those who would be felicitated on July 4 are Surender Kaur, Ritu Rani, Rani Devi, Joydeep Kaur, Jasdeep Kaur, Mamta Kharab (Hockey), Vijender Singh, Dinesh Kumar, Jitender, Jai Bhagwan and Sandeep Singh (Boxing).
