Pune, February 3 The Railway, Road, and Traffic Management Committee (RRTM) of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) recently sent a pre-budget memorandum to the Railway Ministry. The chamber has sent several suggestions to the Railway Ministry, which includes passenger and cargo requirements of the Pune Division, introduction of new trains, increase in the frequency of some trains, erection of new tracks and infrastructure-related issues.

For the Pune Railway division, the RRTM demanded the construction of a separate terminus for trains originating form Pune Station. It also suggested that introduction of Pune-Mumbai Trains hourly would benefit thousands of passengers residing in Western Maharashtra. Similarly the Pune-Lonavla connectivity also needed to be improved.

The committee also felt the need of subways at the Pune railway station. The existing two foot-bridges, it felt, were not enough. There was also the need to connect the Existing Airport at Lohegaon and the proposed Greenfield Airport at Rajgurunagar. With regard to new trains, the RRTM suggested that new trains on the Pune-Chennai, Pune-Hyderabad, Pune-Kolhapur, Pune-Solapur, Pune-Bangalore, Pune-Hubli, Pune-Mangalore, Pune-Delhi, Pune-Jaipur needed to be introduced on a priority basis. Also, Rail connectivity from Pune to the North-east and the Konkan region should be improved, and additional services to Gujarat should also be introduced. The frequency of the Pune-Ahmedabad-Jodhpur-Pune Ahimsa Express, the Pune-Ernakulam-Pune Train and the Pune-Nagpur tri-weekly express train needed to be increased. The RRTM suggested work on electrification of Pune-Daund section, double line between Daund-Manmad, double line between Pune-Miraj, Construction of Baramati-Lonand broadgauge line, construction of Pune-Ahmednagar-Aurangabad broad gauge double, Ahmednagar and Nevasa, of double line from Solapur to Wadi.
