MCD leaders demand ordinance for protection against sealing

With the Delhi Laws Special Provisional Act expiring on December 31 last year, MCD Leader of the House Subhash Arya, along with MCD Standing Committee members, visited Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and demanded an ordinance to protect unauthorised residential colonies, villages, slum clusters, farmhouses, religious institutions and store houses from the sealing drive. Arya alleged the Central government has provided temporary relief to the people of Delhi. He insisted the government should immediately pass the ordinance to provide a permanent solution to residents.

“The Centre has been fooling the people of Delhi by introducing temporary provisions for relief. It is not even allowing the MCD to sanction building plans. There is always a fear of sealing and demolition among the residents,” said Arya. “The Centre is not willing to introduce a one-time amnesty scheme to provide relief from sealing and to regularise additional construction,” added Arya.

Arya said people living in unauthorised colonies have been suffering because of the delay of the government. “Councillors cannot utilise their funds in the unauthorised colonies; as a result the people in these areas are forced to live without basic civic amenities,” added Arya.
