MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said the government is trying to protect the schools by increasing the burden on the common man.
He said the MCD was in favour of implementing the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, “but we don’t want the school management to collect funds and use them elsewhere”.
The agency has now asked the 783 unaided schools recognised by the MCD to submit their annual balance sheets, profit and loss statements and the salary break-ups of the staff eligible for revised salaries.
“We have asked schools to submit details of fee hike, the increase in salaries in the last five years, and the salaries paid to teachers after the Fifth Pay Commission’s report,” Gupta said.
The schools have been given ten days to provide these details. The Corporation will then study them and accordingly decide on the fee they can hike.
Gupta also rejected the Bansal Committee’s report. “We have not received the report; we are not satisfied with the Cabinet decision, which gives schools the opportunity to increase fee,” he said.
Education Committee Chairman Prithviraj Sahni said, “The MCD may allow a reasonable increase only if the schools give a genuine account of their funds.”
