At most MCD hospitals, sanitation staff is present only for two or three hours a day. “The MCD plans to outsource the work to private agencies. This will ensure that the cleanliness work is carried on efficiently. Besides, outsourcing staff will also come cheaper than hiring men on a regular basis,” said the Chairman of MCD Health Committee V K Monga.
The changes are expected to take place within the next three months.
Monga also said that the outsourced staff will ensure the maintenance of cleanliness of areas like the ICU, OPD and emergency units. “Our existing staff will be utilised in areas like the parking, terrace and corridors,” added Monga.
Another regular feature at MCD hospitals is the routine occurrence of thefts, with no watchmen or security guards around. “There have been instances where doctors have been manhandled by the family members of patients. Hospital machinery has also been stolen on several occasions. Thousands of patients come to these hospitals. It is important to ensure their safety,” added Monga.
