In a meeting held on Saturday, the nominated councillors demanded that Chatrath should apologise failing which they would stage a boycott at the House Meet this month.
Councillor Dr A P Sanwaria stated that Chatrath’s statement had hurt their sentiments. “She said that those part of the Administrator’s bandwagon were unethical and valueless individuals who were more interested in their personal benefits. Such comments are not expected from a senior councillor,” he added.
Councillor MPS Chawla demanded an apology from Chatrath for her behaviour. “No one has ever pressurised us to vote for any particular candidate,” added Chawla. Chatrath had alleged that the UT Administrator had interfered in the 2007 Mayoral elections and ensured support to a non-Congress candidate who won the election.
In 2007, Akali councillor Harjinder Kaur had defeated Chatrath by one vote to be elected as Mayor. The win was attributed to the support of the nominated councillors. Harjinder Kaur said, “The accusations that the Administrator interfered in the election of the Mayor are baseless. Chatrath is making such statements out of vengeance.”
