Sources said the civic body had planned to form a committee to look after the project, but nothing has materialised.
A proposal to frame the policy for providing basic amenities in villages and colonies on a par with other sectors of Chandigarh was tabled in the special House meeting of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh on December 11, 2007.
The agenda was to provide basic amenities in villages and colonies under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation on par with other sectors of the city and also simultaneously carry out the anti-encroachment drive in a phased manner.
At that time, many councillors had pointed out that there is a need to look into the issue in a specialised manner and suggested the formation of a committee.
After that the Municipal Corporation had announced the formation of a Slum Development Committee to look into the development issues.
After making the announcement, the file was forwarded to UT Home and Health Secretary Krishna Mohan for his approval. But till date there has been no progress.
Chandigarh Mayor Pardeep Chhabra said once the administration approves the constitution of new committees, the committee will be formed at the earliest so that members in the committee can look into the infrastructure need of the villages and colonies. He said in the new Budget, special attention has been paid for providing water supply, storm water drainage system and sewage system in the villages and colonies.
“But we will carry out the development work only after the committee is formed,” the mayor added.
