Kolkata In its manifesto for the May 30 civic polls to be released on Sunday, the Congress is set to blame the Trinamool for the breakdown of their seat-sharing talks and will target the CPM for the plight of the state capital.

“We will tell the public the reasons and circumstances that led to the breach in alliance. We will also speak about the misrule of the CPM-run KMC and that it failed to deliver to the people despite central grants,” said state Congress working president Pradip Bhattacharjee.

The Congress has fielded 115 candidates for the polls to the 141-ward KMC. Trinamool will contest all the seats. The state Congress manifesto will blame the Trinamool for its aggressive approach that allegedly led to the breach in the alliance between the two parties. “We were not given the minimum respect we deserved from our ally. We tried our best to reach a seat-sharing deal but the Trinamool unilaterally announced its list,” said a senior state Congress leader.

To take on the CPM, the Congress will highlight civic issues that the KMC allegedly failed to address, prominent among them being the water crisis.

The manifesto will also highlight the flow of central funds for municipal projects in the city. “The UPA government is doing all it can to develop Kolkata. A lot of central funds have been given to the KMC. Projects like JNNURM have benefitted the city a lot,” said a Congress leader. The manifesto will also pitch for more powers to the KMC.
