Kolkata, January 8 Despite having the latest degrees under his belt, experienced Salgaocar coach Savio Medeira is struggling to revive his team after their pedestrian showing in the ongoing I-League, and has whole-heartedly welcomed Subhas Bhowmick, a coach who doesn’t believe in degrees. Salgaocar are on four points from 10 matches.

Bhowmick in fact finalised his deal with the club today at a post-match discussion with Salgaocar president Shivanand Salgaocar. The club president told The Indian Express: “He watched today’s drawn match between East Bengal and Salgaocar. He is going back to Kolkata tomorrow. Then within the next couple of days, he will be back and start his work with us as the Technical Director (TD). It’s not that we have lost faith on Savio. Rather, we want Bhowmick to provide us with additional inputs. He will work with Salgaocar till the end of the I-League. Following the team’s performance, he may continue.”

Medeira, asked about the two men’s different styles of coaching, told this daily: “The key thing about Bhowmick’s training style that I remember from my experience of watching East Bengal under him was the method of motivating the players, particularly when team was in crisis. So, I don’t think our training styles will clash. Rather, his suggestions can help me a lot in restore the players’ psychological strength. I am optimistic that his presence and style of work will boost our boys.”

As for the reasons behind the team’s miserable showing in the I-League, Medeira said: “The lapse of concentration by our defenders in the last few matches has been the key factor. Despite having scored goals we have conceded some at crucial junctures. I hope we can sort out the problem.”
