Ludhiana, January 8 Habit-forming drugs estimated to be worth over Rs 10 lakh were seized from the medical stores of a wholesale dealer at Pindi Street late on Tuesday evening.

Officials of the health department, accompanied by State Drug Controller Bhag Singh and Civil Surgeon SP Sharma, raided Dada medical store and Hindustan medical store. It was learnt that both the stores belonged to one person.

The officials of the health department claimed it was a big seizure. The dealer had stored drugs in the godown.

“It is a major breakthrough. The dealer had stored habit-forming drugs without any proper record,” said an official of the health department.

Civil Surgeon S P Sharma said, “While we are still estimating the worth of the drugs seized, it’s likely to be over Rs 10 lakh. Four drug inspectors accompanied the Civil Surgeon and the State Drug Controller.

The raids were on till the filing of the report.
