Mehdi blasts ton as Unity Academy win

Lucknow, February 5 SM Mehdi blasted an unbeaten century as his team Unity Cricket Academy defeated Panther’s Academy `Blue’ by 185 runs in their league match of the 5th Panther Cup cricket tournament at NER Stadium here on Tuesday.

Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Unity Academy mustered 256 runs losing four wickets in the stipulated 40 overs, thanks to an impressive batting performance by SM Mehdi. He batted brilliantly and scored 147 runs off 107 balls which featured 25 hits to the fence. Mehdi was well-supported in his efforts by Shujat Ali (33 not out) and Ravi Kumar (23). Rahul Kanaujia collected two wickets while Manish Lal and Lalit Bhandari claimed apiece each.

In reply, Panther’s Academy ‘Blue’ was bowled out at a total of 71 runs in 25.3 overs. Besides Rakesh Rajan (12) and Manmohan Verma (10), no other batsman could even reach the double-digit mark due to accurate bowling by most of the Unity bowlers. M Javed bowled economically and claimed three crucial wickets giving away 9 runs in his 4.3 over spell which featured two maiden overs as well. Adeel Baqar took four wickets while Shujat Ali and Prabhakar Chauhan claimed apiece each.
